Concert photography at Schauspielhaus Bochum

The Schauspielhaus Bochum is one of the most renowned theatres in Germany and is not only known for its first-class theatre performances, but also for its outstanding concert events. With its rich history and unique ambience, Schauspielhaus Bochum offers the ideal setting for unforgettable concert experiences.

The Schauspielhaus Bochum has four venues: the Schauspielhaus (up to 800 seats), the Kammerspiele (400 seats), the Oval Office (100 seats) and, two kilometres away, the Theaterrevier (100 seats), the venue for children's and youth theatre of the Junges Schauspielhaus.

The Schauspielhaus Bochum: a stage for a variety of musical genres

Schauspielhaus Bochum is not only home to theatre performances, but also offers a wide range of musical events, including concerts of various genres such as classical, jazz, pop and world music. From renowned orchestras and ensembles to up-and-coming local talent, Schauspielhaus Bochum offers a platform for musical diversity and artistic excellence.

The Kammerspiele: Intimate concert atmosphere within reach

The Kammerspiele at Schauspielhaus Bochum offers an intimate and inviting atmosphere for concerts and chamber music performances. With a limited number of seats, the Kammerspiele allows for an intense and personal concert experience where the audience can experience the music up close. This intimate atmosphere creates ideal conditions for concert photographers to capture the emotion and magic of the music in their pictures.

Open-air stage in front of the theatre

And there were also unusual stages in front of the theatre. Here are photographs of the open-air stage at the eight days of open-air theatre about hope, longing, Bochum and the people who make up our city on the forecourt, photographed with a drone.

Photographer and videographer at Schauspielhaus Bochum

As a photographer and videographer, I have created several documentary film reports at the Bochum Schauspielhaus. Some of them include footage of rehearsals, performances and interviews with the actors and theatre managers.

Film contribution "The incredible story of the little robot boy"

In the high-tech laboratory of the Schauspielhaus Bochum theatre, scientists are doing everything they can to develop a robot with an authentic brain. A little robot boy emerges who realises that the researchers have an important mission - and he is ready to help them. But occasionally he longs to immerse himself in his own dream world. At such moments, the laboratory begins to change. This heart-warming story combines drama, puppetry and music to create a unique production.

Film contribution "Spamalot" Schauspielhaus Bochum

The musical SPAMALOT, based on the film "The Knights of the Coconut" by the legendary British comedy troupe Monty Python, is being staged in a lavish and impressive production at Schauspielhaus Bochum. The production involves 16 actors and musical performers, eight musicians, 26 sets, 150 costumes and 40 wigs. In our conversations with the horse (Ronny Miersch), the singing diva (Kira Primke) and the musical director (Tobias Cosler), we learnt more about the background to the production.

Film contribution "Lord of the Flies" Kammerspiele Bochum

80 pupils from six different schools in Bochum were involved in various groups over a period of five months: Stage design, costume, video and multimedia, PR, drama, dance and music. As part of the "School in Motion" project, they are presenting a performance of "Lord of the Flies" at the Schauspielhaus theatre. The novel by William Golding, which was published in 1954, tells the story of a group of young people waiting to be rescued on a South Sea island and experiencing cruelty, violence and death in the process.

Film contribution "Stroop schießt Tore" Eve Bar Bochum

The iconic cellar club "Eve Bar" in the Schauspielhaus for programme, music, theatre and talk was the venue for "Stroop schießen Tore - Chroniken eines Investors", a theatre-impro-football talk show as a loose series. Dutch syrup magnate Klaas van Urk (played by actor Pirmin Sedlmeir) wants to bring VfL Bochum 1848 into the Champions League as an investor.

The challenges facing photographers at Schauspielhaus Bochum

Photography at Schauspielhaus Bochum presents photographers with a number of unique challenges. The changing lighting conditions, the special acoustics of the space and the movements of the musicians on stage require quick adaptability and a trained eye to capture the best moments in concert photos. In addition, photographers must also respect the rules and restrictions of the venue and often move in confined spaces or limited conditions.
