Photos of a special project moment in Düsseldorf
As an event photographer and construction site photographer, I had the opportunity to witness an extraordinary event at Düsseldorf's Kennedydamm: the combined topping-out ceremony and tree planting ceremony for a new landmark project – a high-quality office and retail complex with over 46,000 m² of gross floor space. The property has been under construction since mid-2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2025.
The event centered around three impressive Scots pines—over 30 years old and up to 25 meters tall—which were planted in the courtyard a few days ago. These striking trees set the mood and visual tone for the day. The project at the entrance to the city center is taking shape and, with the integration of these trees, is gaining a strong ecological and design accent.
The event was staged festively, with atmospheric lighting and a pre-Christmas atmosphere. Numerous project participants, partners, and guests were in attendance—over 300 people in total. Official representatives from the city and project development addressed the audience with words of thanks and appreciation. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of the new plaza as the green center of the project and as a future meeting place for users of the building.
From a photographic point of view, the interplay of modern architecture, mature nature, and festive atmosphere created an exciting contrast. The newly planted Scots pines created strong vertical lines in the composition, while the clear edges of the three wings of the building harmoniously surrounded the inner courtyard.
The architectural design—a sculptural structure with a striking design language—reflects the architectural firm's creative identity. Extensive landscaping is also planned for the rest of the project: in addition to the Scots pines, over 50 other trees will be planted in the outdoor areas and on the roof surfaces to create a green environment.
The venue itself, located on Karl-Arnold-Platz, is part of a larger urban development project, into which this project fits seamlessly. The developers have been active in the city for years with various projects – from the banking district to the harbor – and have had a significant influence on Düsseldorf's architectural identity.
For me as a photographer, it was an exciting task to capture both the dynamics of the construction site's progress and the festive moments. The contrast between steel and concrete on the one hand – and mature greenery on the other – provided strong visual motifs that impressively document the tension between urban development and sustainable design.

Construction documentation of a pioneering project on Kennedydamm
A state-of-the-art new building project is currently under construction in a prominent location on Kennedydamm in Düsseldorf – another striking addition to the urban landscape and an architectural statement. The client is realizing a building ensemble that is characterized not only by its sculptural design language, but also by its consistent focus on sustainability and technical innovation.
The project pursues ambitious green building goals: The aim is to achieve LEED Gold certification and a WiredScore Platinum rating – both indicators of high ecological and digital standards.
As a photographer focusing on construction site processes and facade design, the complexity and quality of the building envelopes are particularly noteworthy. The facade is being implemented by an experienced facade constructor and comprises several specially designed systems:
- Approximately 13,000 m² of element facade
- Approximately 11,000 m² of sheet metal facade with 3D sheet metal frames
- Approximately 700 m² of post-and-beam facade
The combination of these systems—in particular the specially designed 3D sheet metal frames—gives the building envelope a distinctive sculptural effect. Many details that will be decisive for the final architectural effect are already visible in the current construction phase. The precise workmanship and choice of materials make a strong visual statement and create exciting contrasts depending on the lighting conditions.
This project is not only relevant from an urban planning perspective—it also offers a wide range of photographic motifs: from technical details and large-scale geometries to atmospheric shots throughout the changing hours of the day.
