Magical moments for photographers: music, light and emotions
Essen Original is a highlight for the city, for music fans and definitely also for event photographers. This year I was also there as an event photographer in Essen with the camera and was able to experience the start of the three-day city festival live.
It was clear from the very first evening: the city is alive! At the opening, the "WDR 4 Sommer Open Air" with Peter Schilling attracted an incredible crowd in front of the Sparkasse Essen stage. Thousands of people, an exuberant atmosphere, golden evening light - a dream from a photographic point of view. The combination of music, emotions and the special flair of the city center simply makes for magical motifs. Photographers love it when the bass is in the air and the faces in the crowd light up - these are the moments you want to capture.
WDR 4 presenter Bastian Bender hilariously hosted the evening at Kennedyplatz in Essen. The evening started with the WDR 4 band before Peter Schilling - a true NDW legend - rocked the stage. Comedian Djavid Sediqi, who quickly had the audience on his side, provided plenty of laughs and good humor. And in between, WDR 4 DJ Sascha Gansen brought a real atmosphere to the square with his beats.

There was also endless music on the following days at Essen Original. Whether Loi on Kennedyplatz on Saturday or Tom Gregory at the Sunday finale - the line-up on all three stages delighted the audience. The atmosphere at the newly designed Kopstadtplatz was particularly praised: lounge corners, food trucks, cocktail bars and DJ sounds created a place to stay, relax and enjoy - exactly what makes a successful city festival. The "Original Essen" mile at the weekend was once again a colorful centerpiece of the festival. Associations, institutions and municipal players presented themselves with exciting offers - especially for families and children. Craft activities for Mother's Day, play stations and hands-on activities turned the city center into a lively meeting place during the day.
The weather was at its best throughout the weekend: sunshine galore, perfect conditions for a street festival. Everything also ran smoothly in terms of organization - no major incidents, a relaxed security situation, peaceful coexistence. Essen Original inspires every year anew.
